The annual Lane Kemper Softball Classic charity tournament attracts more than 600 L.A. City firefighters and 300-400 spectators.
The event is named in honor of Captain Lane Kemper (1952-2006), a man who embodied the true spirit of camaraderie and devoted himself to helping others. As a tribute to him, our firefighters have come together to carry on this long-standing tradition, which raises money for the Widows, Orphans & Disabled Firefighter’s Fund.
Here’s how his friend Firefighter III Jim Stiglich described Lane and the event.
“Lane raised countless dollars for the Widows and Orphans Fund over the years but there was always a catch. There always had to be a little friendly firefighter competition and a lot of fun in the fundraising process.”
