The Next Generation of LAFD Firefighters is joining the ranks of one of the world’s most elite agencies. After conquering grueling and intense training, that tested them mentally and physically, the new probationary Los Angeles City firefighters are ready to take their place among the other respected and revered first responders in the LAFD. There’s a mindset shared by all 38 firefighters who graduated January 25th, 2024; a desire to serve and put others before self. After completing 20 weeks of intense training, pushing themselves physically and mentally these newly-sworn members of the Los Angeles City Fire Department family earned their badges as well as the utmost respect of family and friends assembled. For these firefighters, this is day one of a lifelong journey alongside the elite ranks of the LAFD.

On November 2, 2023, 37 men and one woman of the Class of 2023-1 raised their right hands and swore an oath to serve the residents of Los Angeles: placing their lives before their own. After successfully completing 18 grueling weeks of training, they stood in formation in front of Drill Tower 81, the intimidating structure they bested to become probationary firefighters. Badges were bestowed by friends and family, and, in that instant, the graduates joined a new family, the elite ranks of the Los Angeles Fire Department and embarked on a what they hope to be a lifelong rewarding career.

The inscription on the entrance gate to Drill Tower 81 reads, “Those who wish this life are welcome to try.” On June 15, 2023 friends and family celebrated these 51 who tried and conquered the “Tower” during the grueling 18-week training class. As probationary firefighters, Class 2022-4 begin their assignments within the elite Los Angeles Fire Department.
