“The Relief” is the umbrella, member organization serving L.A. City firefighters (LAFD) and their families. Its Board of Trustees runs and administers the Widows, Orphans & Disabled Firefighter’s Fund charity.

It was founded in 1906 with the mission of “firefighters helping firefighters.” In addition to running the charity, the member side of the organization, funded by member dues, offers other programs and benefits such as:
- LAFRA Fire Medical Plan
- Sick & Injury Benefit
- Life & Accident Fund
- Durable Medical Equipment
- Firemen’s Grapevine magazine
The Los Angeles Firemen’s Relief Association has a 501(c)(9) tax status. The Widows, Orphans & Disabled Firefighter’s Fund is a 501(c)(3) charity.
