LAFD honors fallen Captain II Dave Moorman at Santa Monica Beach

LAFD Captain II Dave Moorman

His inspirational motto “It’s All Good” inspired his fellow firefighters to live life to the fullest. Now, LAFD Fire Captain II Dave Moorman’s positive outlook and infectious spirit live on through those who knew and loved him. In tribute to this beloved L.A. City Firefighter, his friends and colleagues renamed the annual Over the Line Tournament in his honor. Watch as they celebrate his life and legacy with smiles, sunshine, camaraderie, and competition.

Remembering Dave: Husband, Father, Son and Friend

LAFD Over the Line tournament at Santa Monica Beach

LAFD Fire Captain II Dave Moorman started his career with the LAFD on October 11, 1989. Over his 28-years of service he climbed the ranks from firefighter to apparatus operator to captain I, all the way to captain II. Dave also was selected as a member of the FEMA Urban Search and Rescue Team and was deployed to 9/11 in New York with California’s “Task Force 1.” He was recognized for his performance during the Los Angeles Riots in 1992 and was awarded a Medal of Merit for his bravery during the Malibu fires of 1996.

According to the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation, Moorman grew up loving the Dodgers, playing competitive sports and enjoying trips to the Colorado River with his family and friends.

Dave died of a job-related illness in 2017, after serving on the LAFD for 28-years. He was only 50-years-old. According to the U.S Fire Administration, Dave arrived home after working a 36-hour shift. Within an hour, he collapsed. A family member began to render first aid, including CPR, until responding units from the Ventura County Fire Department arrived on scene and initiated medical care. He was transported to Los Robles Hospital in Thousand Oaks where he later died.

Dave left behind his wife Amy, their children Elizabeth and Richard as well as his mother, Carol. The LAFD, along with the Los Angeles Firemen’s Relief Association, the umbrella organization that runs the Widows, Orphans & Disabled Firefighter’s Fund, the United Firefighters of Los Angeles City and the International Association of Fallen Firefighters, helped the Moorman family at the time, providing much needed support.

For our L.A. firefighter charity, this assistance is only possible thanks to kind and generous donations, and money raised through events such as The Dave Moorman ‘It’s All Good” Over the Line Tournament. Special thanks to LAFD Captain II Sean Millet for putting on this fantastic fundraiser, and all the firefighters and volunteers who participated.
