What began as a casual night out for firefighters after the strain of the day has turned into one of the Widows & Orphans’ most exciting fundraising events, the LAFD Firefighters Bowling Benefit.
Corbin Bowl in Tarzana once hosted the Los Angeles Firemen’s Bowling League and the Southern California Firefighters Bowling Tournament. So, it made sense that Corbin Bowl took its support up a notch by creating the now annual Firefighters Bowling Benefit, raising money for the Widows, Orphans & Disabled Firemen’s Fund. The event features pizza, refreshments, guest star appearances, a raffle of enticing prizes, a silent auction and, of course, two hours of bowling and fun for all who attended.
Keenan Porche, an LAFD firefighter and volunteer helping to execute this event, believes it’s a great universal fundraiser, especially when one considers the charity’s other sports-related events. He said, “Not everybody is on a softball team and not everybody plays golf, but anyone can come out and roll some balls down the lane.”
Everyone is invited to get involved, you may make a donation, sign up to participate as an individual or gather a team. Always appreciative of supporters, Corbin Bowl dedicates a lane placard, which hangs on the wall for part of the year, to any person or company that donates $200 or more.
Corbin Bowl opened its doors more than half a century ago in 1959 and has been admirably serving the San Fernando Valley bowling faithful, as well as the LAFD and its charities, ever since. And they offer many daily specials.
General Manager Bryan Alpert said, “Over 50 years of family fun and still going strong-Corbin Bowl is the community center for all your recreation, corporate and fundraising needs.”
