Carb and sugar free, yet still sweet at heart
Flying Embers alcohol beverage company gives back to the LAFD families in appreciation of what firefighters did for them during a dangerous and scary time.
“Flying Embers was founded in Ojai, California in December of 2017,” says Beryl Jacobson, Co-Founder. “At the time, we didn’t have a name, but we were working on the product and that’s when the Thomas Fire came through and was headed straight for where we were brewing and everything that we were building. And, at that time, the sky was full of flying embers and that’s how the name came about, but also that’s how our appreciation and our gratitude for firefighters and all that they do came as well,” says Beryl.
As the Thomas Fire raged on, destroying hundreds of homes, and threatening their business, Beryl says a single ember could have wiped out their new company. If it was not for the heroic actions of the responding fire departments, Flying Embers might not be around today. The owners say they were so humbled and inspired, they created a nonprofit arm called the Embers Foundation to address firefighters, first responders and community needs nationwide. The company became a proud sponsor of the LAFD Invitational charity golf tournament in 2022.
What is Flying embers?
“Flying Embers is a better for you alcohol company,” Beryl says proudly. “So, what we mean by that is we put an intention to everything that we make. Everything is organic. Every product that we make is zero sugar and zero carbs. It’s all alcohol products, but they range in different categories from hard kombucha to hard seltzers, to even canned cocktails like margaritas and mojitos. But the through line is that they’re all organic, they’re all sourcing the best ingredients. They all are zero sugar and zero carbs. So, you know, great experience and you can live your life to the fullest.”
As for the sugar, as Beryl says you can’t get away from it! “You know, sugar, you know, a little bit here and there is okay, but not in everything in America. There’s sugar in everything. Cocktails in particular are loaded with them. In fact, you don’t have to tell what the sugar content is on cocktails, whereas you do on other types of types of food products. So, the amount is actually, you know, you don’t even know! And it’s a lot. And so, to be able to come up with a product that’s dry fermented at zero sugar and zero carbs, it’s just, it’s pretty fun to be able to say to somebody, actually, you know, you can have this cocktail. It’s 10% margarita and it’s zero sugar and zero carbs. You see a lot of big, bright eyes and happy faces.”
