Caring for customers has been a part of Alaska Airlines’ mission since it was founded. That sense of care reached beyond the aircraft and into the firehouse when the company donated a VIP, round-trip ticket package for two for the live fundraising auction that follows the LAFD Invitational golf tournament, benefitting the Widows, Orphans & Disabled Firemen’s Fund.
The airline’s General Manager of Sales & Community Marketing, Jeff Etherington said, “Alaska Airlines believes in giving back to the community we serve and saw this organization a perfect fit for our corporate giving and philosophy.”
The company’s generosity goes a long way, literally and figuratively. “Travel packages are one of the most popular items in auctions and can also be one of the most difficult areas in which to find donors,” said Jody Houser, the charity’s Auction & Internet Marketing Specialist. “We are exceedingly grateful to Alaska Airlines for their ticket donations. They fly to a number of great vacation destinations, so we had plenty of options when putting a package together.”
Alaska Airlines’ commitment to the communities it serves springs from a rich heritage as a pioneer in its early days in Alaska where aviation plays a vital role in the life of its residents. This proud legacy continues today in small and big ways, from employee participation in fundraising and fun runs to corporate sponsorships of major community outreach programs and charitable events. Whether through the company’s Corporate Giving Program, the Alaska Airlines Foundation, or the Charity Miles Program, the staff proudly offers help to many worthy causes.
“We were so excited to receive the donation from Alaska Airlines,” said Marlene Casillas, the charity’s Development & Marketing Director. “Airline tickets are at the top of our wish list each year and generate the biggest donations at our auctions. The bidders are thrilled for the chance to travel in style and benefit others at the same time. Thanks to the kindness of Alaska Airlines, everybody wins!”
Jeff hopes to expand the relationship with the Widows, Orphans & Disabled Firemen’s Fund in the future. He said, “We strongly support the firefighter community and find the individuals we have come into contact with at the [charity] to be very professional, gracious and appreciative of their sponsors.”
