There’s no denying that Los Angeles has a wealth of different food options for diners to choose from. From cultural cuisine to the hippest fusion foods, there’s something for everyone. Sometimes, the amount of choices can seem overwhelming. Luckily, for those looking to sample the possibilities, Melting Pot Food Tours offers just that opportunity.
Melting Pot Food Tours was kind enough to support the Widows, Orphans & Disabled Firemen’s Fund by donating tickets to one of their food tours to the silent auction at the 2012 LAFD Invitational golf tournament. Not surprisingly, it drew a lot of attention from bidders. What does a food tour include? As Lisa Scalia, the owner of Melting Pot Food Tours, explains, “Our reasonably-priced regularly scheduled half-day walking tasting tours are local adventures filled with food, history, folklore and fun. All dining establishments featured on our tours are independently owned and operated by locals.”
Running a company that deals with so many small local businesses means that Lisa understands just how important the LAFD is to Los Angeles. “We would be in a world of hurt if it weren’t for our firefighter community, including paramedics, EMTs, and emergency responders. We are extremely fortunate to have men and women willing to risk life and limb for the benefit of their fellow citizens.”
Lisa learned about Widows & Orphans when the organization’s Development & Marketing Director, Marlene Casillas, went on a food tour with family. “It is always heartwarming to learn one of our past tour guests is intimately involved in a cause which provides help and support to people in need, particularly children,” Lisa said. “In this instance, I thought who better to support than an organization that takes care of the family left behind when a firefighter dies or is disabled while trying to save another’s life or property.”
Auction bidders love unique items and experiences, and donations like food tour tickets are always a popular draw. As with many local businesses, Melting Pot Food Tours receives plenty of requests from charitable organizations. With so many worthy causes around, we are honored that they chose to support Widows & Orphans.
