Since physicians devote themselves to healing and helping people, it should come as no surprise that the Cooperative of American Physicians, Inc. is a supporter of the Widows, Orphans & Disabled Firemen’s Fund. Its contributions help the charity assist the families of fallen firefighters.
The group’s headquarters is located on Hope Street, so jumping in as a sponsor of the annual Hope for Firefighters event seemed a perfect way to help. Executive Assistant Andrea Crum said, “We believe strongly in the importance of giving back to the community by supporting local charities.”
By sponsoring a food booth and Muster team (which compete in firefighter-style challenges) each year, the organization helps ensure the annual fundraiser is a success. “We are very appreciative of what firefighters do,” said Crum, “and we are honored to do what we can to support the firefighter community.”
CEO James L. Weidner has been instrumental in both donating money to sponsor a booth and making sure volunteers and Muster team participants have the time to participate in the cause. Crum and Office Services Supervisor George Lira coordinate both efforts.
The Cooperative of American Physicians was established in 1975 by a group of California physicians to manage the escalating cost of medical professional liability coverage. Two years later, the organization formed the Mutual Protection Trust, which provides protection to more than 11,000 of California’s finest physicians, and has earned an A+ (Superior) from rating company A.M. Best-the strongest rating among all physician-owned companies. For more information, visit capphysicians.com.
