Out of the Fire LA is a Los Angeles-based nonprofit that has joined forces with the Widows, Orphans & Disabled Firefighter’s Fund to support LAFD families devastated by the January 2025 wildfires and their aftermath.
Why Out of the Fire LA Answers the Call
Born of a deep commitment to community, Out of the Fire LA saw firefighters risking their own homes to save ours and vowed to stand alongside them. Co-founder Alex Martinez reflects on their recent Out of the Fire LA x OyBar fundraiser, “What we’re doing today is having a barbecue with firefighters to celebrate their work, but also to raise money for the families of firefighters who lost their homes or lost access to their homes during the fires, while they were fighting to save our homes.” This spirit of gratitude and solidarity drives every event and donation.
How They’re Supporting Our Heroes
Out of the Fire LA has already raised $10,000 through its recent OyBar Collab event in the San Fernando Valley, directing every dollar towards wildfire recovery efforts. Beyond cash contributions, the organization has donated thousands of dollars’ worth of kitchen equipment so displaced families can cook meals together once again. At neighborhood barbecues and community gatherings, they invite firefighters and their loved ones to share a meal, to reconnect, and to know that they are not alone. As Alex notes, “We’re trying to help get firefighters and their families back to feeding themselves, getting them in their own kitchens, or before they can get to kitchens, out to restaurants with their families.”
Out of the Fire LA’s commitment extends into the future. They are sponsoring booths at the inaugural Salute to Firefighters Festival & Car Show and are already planning additional events to keep support flowing. Co-founder Jamie Lee adds, “We’re trying to figure out how to do this the right way, within our means, whatever we can do, and we’re figuring that out.”
