LAFD Chief Gene Bednarchik and Captain John Jacobsen, both board members for the Widows, Orphans & Disabled Firemen’s Fund, were honored to present a special plaque to longtime supporters Don and Barbara Rickles at LAFD Fire Station 71. With the crew from 71s on hand to show their appreciation for Don and Barbara’s decades of kindness, Chief Bednarchik and Captain Jacobsen also gave the legendary comedian a firefighter helmet featuring “Rickles” on the custom-made leather shield in front and his nickname “Mr. Warmth” proudly displayed on the back.

Heroes to Our Heroes
The thoughtfulness and generosity of donors such as Don and Barbara Rickles has made a significant difference in the lives of our firefighters and their families. Typically, the people we serve are hesitant to ask for assistance and never expected to find themselves in need. We are humbled and grateful the Rickles have chosen to help us in our mission of assisting those who sacrifice so much, yet rarely ask for anything in return.
