Here at Discovery School, our mission is to guide young children as they build a strong foundation for their many years of intellectual, social, and physical development.
In addition to our talented and innovative teachers, Discovery School’s Parents Association is pivotal in their child’s education, development and enrichment. The DSPA is a non-profit association run by volunteer parents. The specific purpose of the DSPA is the planning, funding, and operation of supplemental educational programs, activities and philanthropic opportunities that make Discovery School the exceptional, nurturing, and enriching environment that it is.
In addition to the many goals of the DSPA, introducing empathy through philanthropy is an ideal which it has been growing fervently in recent years. Through hands-on activities and introductions to several different organizations, our children are experiencing what it means to “walk in someone else’s shoes”. The children have participated in an Annual Color Run benefitting an organization understandable to our kids. For the school year, 2017/18, we have chosen The Widows, Orphans & Disabled Firemen’s Fund. Firemen and their Dalmatian dog will join us for the Color Run and explain the importance and risk of their job and how, through our children’s participation in the Color Run and fundraising, what they are doing today will benefit those widows, orphans and disabled in need. We are excited for this new partnership and the impact that our community can make on theirs.
Thanks to everyone for all your generosity and donations. The contest is over but it’s not to late to give to a hero!
