As the Vice President of Wealth Management at One Capital Management, Brad Barrett helps firefighters organize their finances and come up with long-term strategies for their portfolio. He helps firefighters in other ways, too, like supporting the annual LAFD Invitational golf tournament, which raises money for the Widows, Orphans & Disabled Firemen’s Fund. For him, it’s a matter of family.
“Being a firefighter’s son as well as working with many active and retired firemen, I am very grateful for the opportunity to be involved with them,” he said. “Their hard work, kindness and attitude toward life are a great inspiration in my personal life as well as my professional life. I could not ask for a better upbringing or career life within the firefighter community.”
His experience as a donor has been rewarding. He enjoys witnessing the interaction of active and retired firemen as well as the staff during fundraising events. He said, “The generosity of all the donors and the firemen who come to support the cause is one of the reasons I return as a donor every year.”
While on the clock, Brad helps firefighters design their own custom portfolio within their retirement plan, monitor and track all of their contributions and allocation, provide quarterly reports and institute cash management strategy. “This allows each of the members to have a tailored portfolio within their Deferred Compensation Plan while removing the expense ratios they are paying to the mutual fund companies,” he said.
Brad makes sure our heroes know they’re taken care of the same way they take care of others. “I have effectively provided individual investment management and financial planning advice for both active and retired firemen while removing mutual fund fees,” he said, “proactively engaging and educating them on what we are doing and tracking their progress.”
From his clients to his firefighter father, these heroes are close to his heart. And Brad chose to support the Widows, Orphans & Disabled Firemen’s Fund because of what the charity stands for. He said, “Its sole focus is to help those in need during times of hardship from duties performed on the job. I believe this adds a lot of peace of mind to our firemen families and is something I am proud to support.”
